“Nepenthe<\/em><\/strong>” is a name from ancient \nGreek, meaning “no sorrow.” It referred to a legendary drink to dispel \ngrief. (So the ancient Greeks had the concept of “antidepressant”, even\n if they did not necessarily have the pharmaceutical technology.) “Nepenthe<\/em>”\n is sometimes (depending on the author) conflated with the River Lethe, \none of the rivers of the underworld, whose waters the spirits of the \ndead drink to forget their mortal lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From the classical Greek, the name Nepenthe<\/em>, for a cure for troubles, has passed into other literature.
